ASME BPVC section-IX-Introductions

Here a short introduction to ASME boiler and pressure vessel codes (BPVC) section-IX, and can not be considered rather for the real Evaluate the document. However, this creation is supposed to provide the reader with higher know-how of the reason And agency of ASME Section ix.

ASME SEC IX Introduction

Section ix of the ASME boiler and pressure vessel code relates to the qualification of welders, welding operators, Brazzers, brazing operators, and fusing operators, and the processes employed in welding, brazing, or plastic using according to with the ASME boiler and pressure vessel code and the ASME b31 code for pressure piping. as such, that is an Energetic document difficulty to regular review, interpretation, and improvement to understand new tendencies and studies facts.

ASME Section ix is a document referenced for the qualification of fabric becoming a member of approaches via various construction codes together with segment I, iii, iv, viii, xii, and so forth. These specific creation codes follow precise kinds of fabrication and can impose additional requirements or exemptions to section ix qualifications. Section IX is not a guarantee that procedures and performance qualifications will be acceptable to a particular construction code.

ASME section IX doesn't contain any rules for production joining, nor does it contain rules to cover all factors affecting the production material joining properties under all circumstances. Where such factors are determined by the organization to the effect of material joining properties, the organization shall address those factors in the Procedure Specification to ensure that the required properties are achieved in the production material joining process.

The purpose of the Welding Procedure Specification and the Procedure Qualification Record (PQR) is to ensure that the material joining process proposed for construction is capable of producing joints having the required mechanical properties for the intended application. Personnel performing to the joining of the material procedure qualification test shall be sufficiently skilled.

The purpose of the procedure qualification test or welding qualification test (WQT) is to establish the mechanical properties of the joint produced by the material joining process and not the skill of the personnel using the material joining process. In addition, special consideration is given when toughness properties testing is required by other Sections of the Code. The toughness supplementary essential variables don't apply unless referenced by the construction codes.

The purpose of Performance Qualifications is to determine the ability of the person using a material joining process to produce a sound weld joint. In the Operator Performance Qualification test, the basic criterion is to determine the ability of the operator to properly operate the equipment to produce a sound joint. In the development of ASME Section IX, each of the joining processes of material that is included was reviewed with the regard to those factors that are called variables, which have an effect upon the material of joining operations as applied to procedure or performance criteria. The user of ASME Section IX should be aware of how ASME Section IX is organized.

ASME section IX is divided into four parts: general requirements, QG, welding, brazing, and plastic fusing. Each Part of the ASME section IX addressing a material joining process, and then divided into Articles. The Articles for each material joining process deal with the following:

(a) general requirements for the specifically applicable to the materials joining process

*  Article I is for the Welding.

*  Article XI  is for the Brazing.

*  Article XXI  is for the Plastic Fusing.

(b) procedure qualifications

*  Article II is for the Welding,

*  Article XII is for the Brazing.

*  Article XXII is for the Plastic Fusing.

(c) performance qualifications

*  Article III is for the Welding.

*  Article XIII is for the Brazing.

*  Article XXIII is for the Plastic Fusing.

(d) data

*  Article IV  is for the Welding.

*  Article XIV is for the Brazing.

*  Article XXIV is for the Plastic Fusing.

(e) standard welding procedure specifications

*  Article V is for the Welding.

These articles contain general references and guides that apply to procedure and performance qualifications such as positions, type, and purpose of various mechanical tests like for welding WPS mechanical/Dt test, and for welder WQT mechanical/DT test, etc,... And acceptance criteria and the applicability of ASME Section IX, The general requirement of the articles reference the data articles for specific details of the testing equipment and removal of the mechanical test specimens.

PROCEDURE QUALIFICATIONS

Each process of material joining that has been evaluated and adopted by ASME Section IX, is listed separately with the essential variables and nonessential variables as they apply to that particular process of the joining the material. In general, the Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) are required to list all essential and nonessential variables for each process that is included under that particular procedure specification.

When the essential variable must be changed beyond the range of qualified and the change is not an editorial revision to correct any errors, that time requalification of the procedure specification is required. If a change is made in the nonessential variable, the procedure need only be revised or amended to address the nonessential variable change.

When toughness properties testing is required for Welding Procedure Specification (WPS) and the qualification by the construction code, that time the supplementary essential variables become additional essential variables, and some change in these variables requires requalification of the procedure specification.

PERFORMANCE QUALIFICATIONS

Performance qualification list separately with the various processes with the essential variables that are applied to the performance qualifications of each process. The welder performance qualifications are limited by essential variables. The performance qualification articles have numerous paragraphs describing generally applicable variables for all processes. QW-350, QB-350, and QF-360 list additional essential variables that are applicable to the specific processes. The code QW-350 variables do not apply to the weld operators. Code QW-360 lists the additional essential variables for the welding operators.

Generally, a welder and welding operator may be qualified by mechanical bending tests, or volumetric Non-destructive examination (NDE) of a test coupon, or the initial production weld. Brazzers or brazing operators and fusing operators may not be qualified by volumetric Non-destructive examination (NDE).

WELDING, BRAZING, AND FUSING DATA

In this article, the data articles include the variables grouped into categories such as weld joints, base materials, and the filler materials, positions, preheat/post-weld heat treatment (PWHT), gas, electrical characteristics, and technique. They are referenced from the other articles as they apply for each process. These articles are frequently avoid misused by selecting for the variables that do not apply to a particular process. The Variables only apply as reference for the application process in:

*  Article II or III for the weld metal welding

*  Article XII or XIII is for the brazing

*  Article XXII or XXIII is for the plastic fusing.

The user of ASME Section IX should not apply any variable that is not referenced for that process. These articles also include the assignments of the welding and brazing P-Numbers to the particular base materials and the F-Numbers to the filler materials. Article IV also includes A-Number, tables for reference by the Code of the user.

The new revision in ASME section IX to position indicates that a welder qualifies in the 1G, 2G, 3G, etc., position and is then they qualified to weld, in production, in the F, V, H, or O positions as appropriate. ASME section IX Code QW-461.9 is a revised table of ASME section, that summarizes these new qualifications. The data articles also give sketches of test coupon orientations, removal of test specimens, and the test jig dimensions. These re-referenced by Articles I, XI, and XXI. QW-470 describes in etching processes and reagents. Within Part, General requirement, QG is a list of the general definitions applicable to the Section IX and adopted material joining processes. It may differ slightly from other welding documents. Non Mandatory Forms for the documenting procedure and performance qualifications are provided for the aid of those, who don't wish to design their own forms. Any forms that address all applicable requirements of ASME Section IX may be used. The code QW-451 and code QB-451 tables for procedure qualification (WPS) thickness limit requirements  QW-452 and QB-452 tables for performance qualification (WQT) thickness limit.
